Laurie developed her interest in amateur photography at an early age working side by side with her dad in the darkroom and creating short stop motion animation films. She was later able to bring these interests together in her technology career when she joined Walt Disney, where she worked at their animation studio supporting production on films such as Pocahontas, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000, and was credited on over a dozen films, including one credit as a digital artist for the film Dinosaur. Although she decided to go back to the technology side of the movie business, the opportunity to help create the look and feel of a film was a great experience and one that will stay with her forever.
Laurie has always been amazed at how one image can bring out such emotion and say so much! It is that emotion that she seeks to evoke with her photography. Growing up in Utah, she had the perfect arena to explore one of the areas she has always loved, landscape photography and you will see the variety of images that nature has to offer throughout her galleries. Since this is one of her early areas of interest some of the galleries are small, but will grow as work continues to get the older film converted to digital.
As Laurie moved more into digital she has taken a more close up look at the world around her and gotten in to macro photography. In the Flower Power gallery you will see how the smallest, most mundane things around us can create an image that helps us understand how incredible our world really is.
Although much of Laurie’s work has a focus in nature, her work circles back again to a love she learned from her father, open wheel racing and cars. She grew up watching the Indianapolis 500 each year with him as early as she can remember and the love of cars stuck. Her move to California to go to work for Disney also brought her closer to some of the IndyCar Series races, where she enjoys photographing the cars and the drivers. And although these are not the only cars she loves you will see a focus on this open wheel series as her initial love of cars came from those early days watching the race with her dad.
The site is in its early stages and the hope is that as more of her early film work is digitized the galleries will grow and new galleries with some of her other interests will be added. Hopefully you enjoy the images and if you have interest in learning more feel free to reach out through one of the links on the site.
